Muhuhu African Sandalwood*

Price range: $22.00 through $45.00

Muhuhu essential oil has the potential beneficial properties of spiritual applications, meditation, anti-inflammatory, and can be useful as a fixative in aromatherapy and perfumery blends. It is a lower cost alternative to actual sandalwoods such as Hawaiin and Indian.

Botanical Name

Brachylaena hutchinsii / Brachylaena huillensis

*Muhuhu is not a true sandalwood. While it is commonly referred to as African Sandalwood, it is derived from the Silver Oak Tree or the Muhugwe Tree, which is botanically distinct from true sandalwood (Santalum album). Although African Muhuhu oil shares some aromatic similarities with sandalwood, it does not possess the same depth and character. It is often used as a lower cost alternative in perfumery. See also Amyris essential oil.

There isn’t a substantial amount of therapeutic evidences for Muhuhu essential oil, so while I am intrigued with this oil, I use it more in experimental applications and when there is more supporting documentation and reputable anecdotal evidence I will use Muhuhu in consequential aromatherapy blends.
